Are your curtains machine washable?

All shopping4fabric curtains are machine washable at 30 °C, except where specified. Clear instructions are provided for your chosen fabric, when your new curtains are delivered.

Do they tumble dry?

No.

Can you iron them after washing?

Yes you can. Our best advice is to iron your curtains on the reverse. Most curtains will lose any creases a day or two after being hung.

Will your curtains fade in sunlight?

All our curtains are supplied with a sewn in quality lining fabric, which in most cases will prevent fading. In cases where any fabric is subjected to prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, then fading will eventually occur.

Are Plumbs curtains hardwearing?

Extremely hard-wearing and well made. Plumbs manufacture and despatch over 1,500 made to measure orders every week. We have been operating at this level for the last 45 years. Are Plumbs curtains guaranteed?

All our curtains are guaranteed for 12 months. If you find any manufacturing defects within that time we guarantee to put them right, even if it means a complete re-cut.

What exactly are the differences between ready made and made-to-measure curtains?

Ready made curtains usually come in three or four standard drop sizes and three or four width sizes. Due to the competitive nature of the ready made curtain market, many are made to a price, and the finished article reflects this fact. Plumbs ready made curtains are available in a wide range of sizes and maintain the quality Plumbs is renowned for.

Plumbs made-to-measure curtains are made to the exact size requested to a tolerance of 6mm (1/4”). The fabrics used originate from quality British fabric houses. Plumbs curtains are available in a choice of headings from fabric which is guaranteed non shrink, non fade and colourfast when washed.

Your made to measure and ready made curtains from Plumbs are supplied pattern matched both vertically and horizontally for a perfect finish. All our curtains have mitred corners and are weighted to ensure perfect drape and a neat finish. Our quality sewn curtains have 8cms (3”) blind hems with lock stitched linings. We only use heading tape from Ruflette. All sewing thread is by Coat’s.

It’s the old saying – you get what you pay for. But before you consider buying cheaper, inferior types of ready made curtains, ask yourself whether you wouldn’t really be getting better value for money and satisfaction by opting for Plumbs curtains.

When you deal with Plumbs, you are dealing direct with the manufacturer. If you have any problems you can probably talk direct to the person who made your curtains. All our curtains are manufactured here in the United Kingdom in our own factory. You are welcome to visit.

Are there any types of window not suitable for your service?

We haven’t found any yet. If you have a very difficult window or situation, simply buy a disposable flash camera. Photograph the situation and send us some basic sketches/measurements and your requirements. We will pay for the development of the disposable camera you send us. We will then prepare a detailed quote and bespoke measurement form for you. There is no-obligation for this service. There are few companies in the world with more experience at making bespoke curtains.

What if my track/pole is in poor condition or I don’t yet have one in place?

This is usually resolved very easily through your local hardware shop. The track or pole you intend to use must be in place before you measure for Plumbs made-to-measure curtains and pelmets.

How do I sort out a pelmet board?

Traditional pelmets, bound edge pelmets and swags & tails all require a pelmet board to be in place before you measure. Box pleat and triple pinch pleat pelmets can be hung on either a pelmet board or duo rail (see below).
If you do not have a pelmet board in place, the construction is easy but please bear in mind that the return which is attached to the wall at either end must be at least 15cms (6”) deep to allow clearance for the curtains. The pelmet board can be flush with the ceiling or have clearance from the ceiling. All the pelmets above can be fitted in either situation.

What is duo rail?

Box pleat, triple pinch pleat and straight frilled pelmet can all be hung on duo or pelmet rail. In different countries this may have different names but the design is always the same. There is a track as normal for the curtain and then a second parallel track to hold the pelmet. Pelmet or duo rail is easy to fit and will be available in your local hardware store.

Are Plumbs made-to-measure curtains and pelmets easy to fit?

Yes full fitting instructions for all curtain types and pelmets are provided with your purchase.

What if my curtains / pelmets need alteration?

Free of charge (exc postage). One alteration is permissible per order, and only then for goods returned within 30 days of first dispatch. This policy does not affect any statutory rights. As you are dealing with Plumbs you can be certain that we will honour the promises above so please order in complete confidence.

If I place an order, how can I be sure that my goods will arrive safely?

All our deliveries are made through either Royal Mail parcel force or Lynx who are a respected world-wide carrier. Your goods are insured by us and monitored through to delivery, where you will have to sign for them. Practically, Plumbs have exported goods to 93 countries without delivery problems.
